GETTING TO THE SPOT

by foot, car, bus, coach, shuttle, airplane…

The Spot Backpackers is on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast, 90km’s south of Durban and 5km off the N2 national highway. You can get to The Spot easily by driving, taking a bus or flying into Durban and taking a shuttle service from there.

Directions if you’re driving

  • Take the N2. Take Exit 51 off the N2. If you’re coming from north, turn left. If you’re coming from south, turn right. Drive through the only set of traffic lights. Take the second left. Take the first left again into Ambleside Road. Drive to the end of the road and you will find our entrance on the right hand side.
  • If you’re coming to us from the north during the day, you can take an alternative scenic route – the R102 that runs close to the sea.
    Take the Hibberdene exit off the N2. Continue until you see the brown information sign directing you turn towards The Spot and Umtentweni Beach. Turn left here. Take the second left. Take the first left again into Ambleside Road. Drive to the end of the road and you will find our entrance on the right hand side.
  • If you’re coming from south, you can stop in Port Shepstone to get some supplies and check out the town. From the N2, take the R102 into Port Shepstone. Continue on the R102 out of Port Shepsone over the bridge on the river. At the second set of traffic lights, turn right. Take the second left. Take the first left again into Ambleside Road. Drive to the end of the road and you will find our entrance on the right hand side.

Taking the Baz Bus

The Spot is a Baz Bus stop. The Baz Bus will pick you up and collect you at the front gate.

Taking a coach

Several mainline coach companies stop at Port Shepstone on the route between Cape Town and Durban. This route also services Port Elizabeth, East London, Mthatha and Kokstad.

Call ahead to arrange a pick-up from Port Shepstone.

Flying into Durban

There are several low cost airlines that operate routes to Durban.

  • Kulula flies to Durban from Johannesburg, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth
  • Mango flies to Durban from Johannesburg and Cape Town
  • SAA flies to PE from Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town and a few other major cities.

Margate Mini Coach operate a scheduled shuttle service between King Shaka International Airport and Port Shepstone. Call ahead to arrange a pick-up from Port Shepstone.
